Futuo Foreign Exchange Consulting Today, the United States has a sudden blockbuster news! The Speaker of the House of Representatives has launched an impeachment inquiry into Biden: the Biden family has a "culture of corruption"

Sept. 13 - House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has launched an impeachment inquiry into U.S. President Joe Biden over what the Republican leader called a "culture of corruption," multiple U.S. media reported on Tuesday. "These allegations paint a picture of a culture of corruption," McCarthy told reporters. "We find that President Biden did lie to the American people about his knowledge of his family's overseas business dealings."

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has launched an impeachment inquiry into US President Joe Biden over what the Republican leader has called a "culture of corruption," according to a number of US media reports on Tuesday (September 13) local time. Reports say McCarthy wants to obtain relevant documents from Biden and his son Hunter.

    "Culture of Corruption"

According to reports, a House official familiar with the plans said the formal investigation would focus on the overseas business affairs of Biden's son, Hunter Biden, and whether President Biden was involved in or benefited from the deals, among other issues.

NBC reported that Mr. McCarthy told reporters at a Sept. 12 news conference that the impeachment inquiry into Mr. Biden was the "logical next step" in a months-long Republican-led investigation.

McCarthy said that the House Oversight and Accountability Committee's investigation of Biden family members found that the Biden family has a "culture of corruption" and may have "abuse of power, obstruction of justice, corruption, etc." Therefore, "I am announcing today that the House Committee will formally open an impeachment inquiry into President Biden."

Mr. McCarthy insisted there were "serious and credible allegations" against Mr. Biden, the report said.

"These allegations paint a picture of a culture of corruption," McCarthy told reporters. "We found that President Biden did lie to the American people about what he knew about his family's overseas business dealings. Witnesses confirmed that the president was involved in multiple phone calls and participated in multiple interactions and dinners that resulted in cars and millions of dollars going to his son and his son's business partners. We know that bank records show nearly $20 million in payments made directly to Biden's family members and associates through various shelf companies."

McCarthy also accused Biden of using his public office to coordinate those relationships and obtain perks from his own administration.

Republican lawmakers also accused Biden of "weaponizing" the Justice Department, citing federal indictments against former President Donald Trump for trying to overturn the 2020 election and indicting thugs involved in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

Another official with knowledge of Mr. McCarthy's thinking said the California Republican was bypassing a House vote to pursue an impeachment inquiry. Such a vote would pose a serious risk to Republicans in swing districts that they could lose.

House Speaker John McCarthy announced the investigation as House lawmakers returned to Washington from a six-week summer recess.

U.S. government funding runs out on Sept. 30. House conservatives are demanding deep spending cuts, an end to "awakened" diversity policies in the military, stronger border enforcement, and reduced or halted or reduced aid to Ukraine in order to approve funding to keep the federal government running.

    All parties respond

The impeachment inquiry announcement quickly drew praise from Republican hardliners and scorn from Democrats.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Green, a Republican, praised Mr. McCarthy's "strong leadership." Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat, called it "politics on steroids" and "all about Speaker McCarthy caving in to a handful of extremists that will cost him his job."

Republican conservative lawmaker Matt Gaetz said the impeachment inquiry into Mr. Biden was "a small step" and that "we need to move faster", adding that if Mr. McCarthy moved slowly, steps could be taken to "remove him".

Ian Sams, White House spokesperson, tweeted: "House Republicans have conducted a nine-month investigation of the President and found no evidence of wrongdoing. His own GOP members say the same. He vowed to vote on impeachment and is now backtracking because he has no support. This is politics at its worst."

Republicans are also divided over the impeachment inquiry, with some arguing that launching an impeachment inquiry into the president without evidence is a "bad idea" that could backfire and have a positive impact on Biden.

According to reports, McCarthy faces an almost impossible choice on the issue of impeachment. If rejected, conservative members who want to continue investigating Biden may move to remove McCarthy as speaker. But an impeachment inquiry is no guarantee of success, and moving forward would alienate more moderate lawmakers and add to an already clogged legislative schedule.

Republicans hold a slim majority in the House of Representatives, just five seats ahead of Democrats. But some Republicans have expressed concern about an impeachment inquiry in the 2024 election year.

If House Republicans succeed, Biden would become the fourth US president to be impeached. His predecessor, Trump, was impeached twice by the House but not convicted in the Senate.
